Galway Bay fm newsroom – GMIT lecturers are to protest tomorrow over funding and education concerns
The lunchtime protest is part of a nationwide demonstration outside Institutes of Technology around the country
The Teachers Union of Ireland says students will not be affected by the protest between midday and 2pm
Areas of concern include underfunding of the Institutes of Technology, low staffing levels, employment status and income poverty
Education concerns include larger class sizes, less access to laboratories, tutorials, and student support
Lecturers and researchers will be balloted by the TUI in the coming weeks on industrial action, up to and including strike action, in order to secure a resolution to key issues
