Galway Bay fm newsroom – Excitement has reached fever pitch across Galway city and county this afternoon as a panel of European Capital of Culture judges prepares to announce the shortlist for the 2020 title.
After almost a full year of speak outs, meetings, and the creation of game-changing plans, the Galway 2020 team has presented Galway’s bid to the judges last evening.
The shortlist will be announced at Dublin Castle at around 4.30 this afternoon.
Galway is facing competition from Dublin, Limerick, and the ‘Three Sisters’ team of Kilkenny, Waterford & Wexford.
Galway’s bid book is called ‘Making Waves,’ and is written as a love letter to Europe.
If Galway takes the title, the city and county could benefit from direct government and grant funding of more than 25 million euro.
City CEO Brendan McGrath was part of the team who presented the bid yesterday – he says the title would be a game changer for Galway city and county.
