Former Oughterard boxer and current New South Wales Lightweight champion Gearoid Clancy faces his first defence of his title on November the 20th in the Punch Bowl Sydney. This will be Gearoid’s 7th professional bout with a 4 win 2 loss record coming into the bout. Gearoid won the title on the 4th of June defeating John Min.
He will defend the title against Brendan Saunders who stepped aside from the title in June leaving the belt vacant. Saunder holds a record of 3 wins 2 loses and 2 defeats into the up coming bout and will be looking to take the belt back. Gearoid has remained very focused over the last few months and has been training relentlessly. He lost his last bout in September which wasn’t for the title but took it to prepare for his defence fight. Gearoid trains out of Bondi Beach Boxing Club under the stewardship of Tony Del Vecchio and has two Irish boxers whom both hold titles TJ Doherty and Darragh Foley in his camp. The fight will be shown live on Fox Sports in the States and Aurora TV in Australia and streamed live on www.gltv.com.
