Galway Bay fm newsroom – A meeting to discuss alleged illegal dumping at Galway’s Old Dock takes place in the city this evening.
The Restore Our Old Dock Campaign claims that the historic site at Long Walk was used as a dump during the construction of nearby apartments in 1996.
It says that almost one third of the old dock was filled with building and household waste and then overlaid with turf and grass.
The group is calling for the dump to be cleared and the old dock to be fully restored as a center for heritage boats in Galway.
The public meeting will take place at the Harbour Hotel at 7.30 this evening.
Organiser Sam Corbett says at present, an illegal dump exists in the heart of Medieval Galway.
