Galway Bay fm newsroom – Only one submission out of 41 is in favour of extending the city boundary.
County councillors were briefed today at the Clayton Hotel on the ongoing review of the city and county boundaries.
The Galway Local Government Review has been seeking public submissions, in a bid to compile a report.
A five-member review committee is preparing a document which will outline the possible changes that could be made to the city and county boundaries.
These include a possible merger of Galway City and County Councils, an extension of the city boundary, or leaving the two local authorities unchanged.
41 submissions were received in a previous consultation process, and these are being used in the drafting of the new consultation paper.
Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council, Peter Roche, says the majority of submissions were against an amalgamation of thecouncils.
Councillor Roche says the Environment Minister will have to take the views of those who made submissions into account.
