Galway Bay fm newsroom – A city councillor says the safety of council staff has been threatened by the illegal dumping of hazardous waste.
Councillor Colette Connolly says a hazardous waste bucket was dumped at Westside bottle bank.
She says council workers are not protected to deal with such waste at bottlebanks, but removed the products from the mouth of the bottle bank anyway to ensure public safety.
Councillor Connolly contacted the Director of Services for Environment, Tom Connell to send out a warden to remove the hazardous bucket itself, which had a reference number on it.
She also wants the reference number followed up to ensure the waste is traced back to the source.
Councillor Connolly says cameras should be installed at the bottle bank in Westside.
