THE draw has officially been completed for the Men’s Hula Hoops National Cup semi-finals and has teed up two very interesting games for the Cup semi-final weekend which will be held on January 6th, 7th and 8th in Co. Cork.
Pyrobel Killester were first out of the drum during the draw which was held on Sunday afternoon and will go on to play Dublin neighbours, UCD Marian in the semi-final. The second semi-final meanwhile will see SSE Airtricity Moycullen face off against Griffith Swords Thunder. Both games will take place on Saturday, January 7th in Neptune Stadium, Cork, as part of a fantastic three-day festival of basketball.
Indeed it was a busy weekend all round, with Men’s Super League action kicking off from Thursday evening when KUBS suffered a loss at home to Belfast Star. Elsewhere, Templeogue made it ten wins from ten as they ended Garvey’s Tralee Warriors’ unbeaten home record in Tralee on Saturday evening with a hard-fought 79-70 win. Griffith Swords Thunder meanwhile made it three wins in the space of six days, overcoming UCD Marian on Friday evening 88-79 (having beaten Templeogue in the Cup quarter final on Wednesday and Tralee in the Super League last Sunday). Pyrobel Killester had the better of Commercial.ie Éanna, DCU Saints lost out by four points to UCC Demons, while Radisson Blu UL Eagles had to settle for second best against an on-form SSE Airtricity Moycullen.
Singleton SuperValu Brunell meanwhile are celebrating their second win of the season and their first win of the Women’s Super League this weekend after they overcame Meteors in a nerve-wracking clash in Cork on Sunday afternoon. An in-form Kaylee Kilpatrick netted 20 points for her side to secure their four-point win.
Elsewhere, Ambassador UCC Glanmire continued their dominance in the League, winning out 55-48 over Pyrobel Killester while DCU Mercy had the better of their encounter with Maxol WIT Wildcats. Portlaoise Panthers also got back to winning ways following last week’s disappointment in the Hula Hoops Cup quarter-final to win out over NUIG Mystics 68-54.
