Galway Bay fm newsroom – Unemployment figures across Galway are falling again after three consecutive months of increases.
There is now a total of just over 18 thousand 150 people on the Live Register across the city and county.
That’s a decrease of almost 12 percent on this time last year.
Last month the biggest drop in unemployment was in the city where the Live Register decreased by 92.
That leaves an unemployment figure of just under 9,400 in the city.
There was also a drop in Tuam, where 47 people came off the Live Register in August, leaving its jobless figure at just over 2,700.
38 people came off the Live Register in Gort last month, leaving its unemployed figure at 1,159.
In Ballinasloe, 19 less people signed on last month, meaning there are now 2 thousand and 57 people out of work in the town and its environs.
Loughrea saw the smallest decrease in unemployment last month, just one person came off the Live Register, leaving Loughrea’s jobless figure at 1,919.
Bucking the downward trend was Clifden, which saw a very slight increase in unemployment in August.
Two extra people signed on in Clifden, bringing its jobless figure to 913.
In total, 195 people came off the Live Register across the city and county last month.
This brings the figure of people who’ve come off the Live Register since August 2014 to over 2,430 – a drop of almost 12 percent in the past year.
