Galway Bay fm newsroom – NUI Galway has dropped its requirement that the president of the university must be fluent in Irish.
The governing authority at the college voted to change the criteria as they felt it was limiting the number of potential candidates for the job.
According to today’s Irish Times, it’s understood a number of members of Údarás na hOllscoile argued for the requirement to be retained but were outvoted.
NUIG is about to begin recruiting for a successor to the current president, Dr. Jim Browne.
