Galway Bay fm newsroom – Rural recreation projects across Galway are to benefit from funding of over 100 thousand euro.

The biggest allocation of 60 thousand euro will go towards works on the Hymany Way walking/cycling route in the Ahascragh and Clonbrock area.

The figure of 100 thousand is part of a national 4.5 million euro programme announced by the Government in September to support rural development.

The largest single allocation of 60 thousand euro will go towards upgrading the Hymany Way walking/cycling route in the Ahascragh and Clonbrock area.

Junior Minister and Roscommon Galway TD Denis Naughten says the Hymany trail will play a major role in attracting future tourism to East Galway.

A further 40 thousand euro will go towards improving existing trails, including in Mountbellew, Portumna, Monivea and Woodlawn.

Works will include surface upgrades, the upgrading of timber structures, vegetation control, and seating replacement.
