Mystics got their second win of their first season in the Superleague on Saturday V Brunell in the Kingfisher on Saturday. Mystics started with a first five of Ebony Wells, Hannah Coen, Lauren Murray, Catherine Connaire and Brittany Glasco.In what a very intense and high tempo affair Mystics got off to a great start hitting 4 three pointers, 2 from Connaire and 2 from Murray in the first quarter and with Wells operating strong on the offensive boards and 100% from the free throw line the first quarter ended with NUIG Mystics leading 20 12. It was much of the same in the second quarter with Brittany Glasco running the point well and causing real problems for the Brunell Defense. Maggie Byrne also came in for the Hard working Hannah Coen and acquitted herself very well. At the half Mystic led on a scoreline of 41 to 26.
The second half saw Brunell raise the defensive pressure but with Glasco on the point and Alison Blaney & Mary Cunniffe coming in at the guard position together with Ebony Wells dominant on the boards with Hannah Coen and Maggie Byrne Mystics held their own and won the quarter 17 15, leaving the score at the end of the 3rd 58 41 in Mystics favour.
The fourth quarter saw much of the same with Brunell Chasing the game and pressing high up the floor. Sarah Grealish entered the game in the fourth as did Rebecca Hansberry and Shannon Cullen and despite being under massive pressure from the Brunell defense they all maintained the score difference and ran out winners on a scoreline of 74 60. This win was a great achievement for a young Mystics team and was made possible by their defensive hard word work and team effort. The future looks bright for this group of players.
