Galway Bay fm newsroom – Loughrea councillors have voted to adopt an amended version of the district’s draft budget for 2017.
Councillors have been presented with suggested allocations for the area’s discretionary funding at a meeting in County Hall this morning.
The district will receive just under 6 million euro of the overall council budget of over 27 million euro for 2017.
After 30 minutes of discussion, Councillor Michael Fahy proposed to adopt the budget, while Councillor Michael Moegie Maher proposed to reject it.
Councillor Maher said Loughrea is not being treated fairly in terms of certain allocations, and he cannot accept the draft budget until changes are made under headings such as street cleaning and parks/open spaces.
After making amendments to these categories for the Loughrea area, the revised draft budget was proposed by Cllr Michael Fahy and seconded by Councillor Maher .
The budget will now form part of the full council budget for 2017, but the county CEO will decide whether or not to include the Loughrea councillors proposed amendments.
