Galway Bay fm newsroom – A special meeting of the City Council will take place tomorrow to honour former Mayor Pat McNamara who has died today at the age of 78.
The Claddagh native served as Mayor of Galway city from July of 1982 to June of 1983, after taking over from now President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins.
The Independent Councillor worked for Connacht Mineral Company and was involved with Galway Rovers soccer team.
He was elected to Galway Corporation in 1973 and spent 17 years in politics.
A special meeting in his honour will take place at City Hall at 2pm tomorrow.
A book of condolences will also be opened.
