Galway Bay fm newsroom – Householders and businesses in the Kilconnell area will be waiting at least another month to find out when their boil water notice will be lifted.
An update on the notice – which is the last remaining boil notice in the county – has been issued to Ballinsloe area councillors this week.
The notice only applies to consumers on the Kilconnell Public Water Supply and Ballyboggan Group Water Scheme.
The County Council executive has received correspondence from Irish Water, which outlines the timeline for the works being carried out on the supply.
The utility says it will update the councillors again in a month’s time – and in the interim, customers should continue to boil their water before use.
The boil water notice was put in place in December last year due to water quality issues believed to have been caused by surface water and inadequate steel lining of pipes.
Ballinasloe councillors have raised concerns over the costs being incurred by local schools, households and businesses who have to buy water while the notice remains in place.
