Galway Bay fm newsroom – Fáilte Ireland is to be asked to designate Salthill as a major landmark on the Wild Atlantic Way.
This week’s meeting of Galway City Council heard that the seaside area has previously been identified as the geographical mid-point of the 2500km route.
Councillor Pearce Flannery told his colleagues that Salthill could use the boost such a designation would afford businesses in the area.
However, many councillors felt that any official designation should also include reference to Galway city.
Councillor Cathal O’ Conchuir interrupted his colleagues to inform them that he understood Spiddal was also considering a similar application.
It was ultimately agreed that Failte Ireland be asked to examine the possibility of designating Salthill as the official mid-way point of the Wild Atlantic Way.
