Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway West TD is urging the Environment Minister to carry out a full public consultation before any final decision is made on the possible amalgamation of the city and county councils.
A review currently being carried out by the Local Government Review Committee is due to be presented to Minister Alan Kelly by November 10th.
The review will look at the possible impacts of three scenarios – no change, an extension of the city boundary, or a total merger of the two local authorities.
To date, almost 50 submissions have been received by the review team.
Fianna Fail TD Eamon O’Cuiv believes that the public was not really given the option of ‘no change’.
