Galway Bay fm newsroom – Shia Muslims from across Ireland are gathered at Eyre Square this lunchtime to mark the tenth day of Muharram.
On this day in the year 680, their leader Imam Hussain sacrificed his life and those of his companions to repel injustice.
Hussain was the grandson of the Holy Prophet of Islam.
Around 40 people have gathered at Eyre Square to mark the occasion, and to demonstrate their opposition to the actions of ISIS and other groups which claim to act in the name of Islam.
