Galway Bay fm newsroom – Fianna Fáil headquarters says two county councillors who voted against the party whip should not face sanctions.
Councillors Donagh Killilea and Noel Thomas voted against their party during a vote to increase the Local Property Tax by 10%.
Both councillors said they could not support the increase.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, Fianna Fáil headquarters says each council group decides on what approach it will take to issues coming before that council, and applies the whip when voting as a group.
However, it says it does not believe that any disciplinary action would be warranted against the two councillors who voted outside the group, given that they were voting in support of Fianna Fáil national policy.
