Galway Bay fm newsroom – A special meeting of Galway City Council will be held tomorrow to honor former Mayor of Galway, Bobby Molloy, who passed away at the weekend.
Bobby Molloy was one of the longest-serving politicians in the Galway West constituency and held many cabinet posts including Minister for Defense, Minister for Local Government and Minister for Energy.
First elected to the Dail in 1965 as a Fianna Fail TD, the former Mayor of Galway was selected as Defense Minister by Taoiseach Jack Lynch in 1970.
In 1986, he was one of the most prominent Fianna Fail members to help in the formative stages of the Progressive Democrats, and in 1989 when the PDs went into coalition with Fianna Fail he became Minister for Energy.
A special city council meeting will be held at City Hall at 12.30 tomorrow, and a book of condolences will be opened.
Meanwhile, tributes continue to pour in for Bobby Molloy, who retired from politics in 2002.
Speaking to Keith Finnegan, former Tánaiste Mary Harney said he was a devoted public representative who truly cared about his constituents.
