Galway Bay fm newsroom – A call for an end to the GAA deal with Sky Sports for broadcast of GAA matches is to be discussed at next week’s meeting of Galway County Council.
Independent councillor Shaun Cunniffe has put down a motion objecting to a continuance of the current three-year deal.
Councillor Cunniffe is spokesperson for the ‘Keep Gaelic Games Free to Air’ group and a member of Tuam GAA club.
According to the Irish Times, he’s proposing that Galway County Council call on the GAA to reverse its policy of selling the exclusive broadcasting rights of Gaelic games to subscription viewing channels.
Councillor Cunniffe says GAA matches should be shown on terrestrial free-to-air channels for all to see.
