Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Chief Superintendent of the Galway Garda Division has appealed to the Garda Commissioner for more resources.
The County Joint Policing Committee has heard that recruits from Templemore, and more patrol cars, are badly needed to plug gaps in the force.
Chief Superintendent Tom Curley made reference to Loughrea, Tuam and Salthill when discussing statistics gathered between 2013 and 2016.
The meeting also heard that up to 70 members of the Galway Division are currently in a position to retire if they so chose, following 30 years of service.
However, despite the gaps crime figures are down across the board – prompting concerns that Galway Gardai are doing such a good job that they may be denied resources from the Government.
Chief Superintendent Tom Curley says numbers are dropping every year and lack of resources is a constant challenge.
