Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway Senator is branding the government’s plan to manage an influx of refugees from the Middle East as ‘appalling.’
Senator Trevor O’Clochartaigh says the government has shown a complete lack of transparency with regard to its plan to resettle Syrian refugees in Ireland.
He claims the government has so far failed to engage with the public, communities or organisations working with refugees and immigrants.
The Sinn Fein senator says that Ireland is also the only EU state to opt out of EU directives that lay down minimum standards for the reception of migrants.
Senator O’Clochartaigh says the government seems to be displaying indifference towards the whole process – and the situation is highly alarming.
