Galway Bay fm newsroom – A quarter of a million euro has been allocated to Galway County Council following a landslide which closed a section of the N59 for four days earlier this year.

The funding is part of a larger allocation of 1.6 million euro approved by Transport Infrastructure Ireland to repair Galway’s national primary and secondary road network following flood damage.

967 thousand euro has been allocated towards national secondary roads at various locations throughout the county.

These include the N65 at Gortymadden, the N83 at Brownsgrove Tuam and the N84 Headford Road.

250 thousand euro has been sanctioned for work on a section of the N59 following the landslide at Lettershea in June of this year.

100 thousand euro of this covers pavement overlay, while the remaining 150 thousand euro is towards clean-up and emergency work costs.

OPW Minister and Galway East TD Sean Canney says the emergency funding  is vital and will benefit a number of areas.
