Galway Bay fm newsroom – Irish Water is putting the finishing touches on its planning application for a new 2.5 million euro wastewater treatment plant in Glenamaddy.

The development will include a pumping station and associated pipelines at Mountkelly, Glenamaddy as part of a major upgrade to the Glenamaddy Sewerage Scheme.

Irish Water says the new plant is needed to replace the old, existing plant which is overloaded and discharging partly treated effluent into a special area of conservation.

The new wastewater treatment plant will have more than double the capacity of the old facility, which is located in an area prone to flooding.

Once submitted, the planning application may be inspected at the offices of Galway County Council.

Tuam area councillor Peter Keaveney says the long-awaited facility will have a major positive impact on the local area.
