Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway County Council is refuting claims that planning permission in Gort could be suspended due to capacity issues at the town’s wastewater treatment plant.
Concerns have been raised over a possible suspension of planning permissions after Irish Water confirmed the plant is at capacity.
Irish Water says further investigation has been commissioned to quantify the wastewater coming in to the Gort treatment plant.
Until this study is done, Irish Water cannot determine the feasibility of adding additional wastewater to the system.
Councillor Joe Byrne claims that this effectively implies that planning permission in Gort is on hold until the Irish Water investigation is complete.
In a statement to NewsBreak, Galway County Council says it is acknowledges that there are capacity issues at the Gort treatment plant.
However, the local authority says all planning applications will continue to be dealt with on their merits, and it will continue to liase with Irish Water on the matter.
