Galway Bay fm newsroom – 270 households across Galway have availed of Irish Water ‘first fix’ leak repair scheme.
Under the programme, householders can have a leak on their property fixed for free by the utility.
Based on figures from the national metering programme, 48% of water is lost across Galway due to leaks.
2,826 households in Galway have already received a letter indicating a potential leak on their property.
Irish Water is urging these householders to request a free leak investigation.
Nationally, almost 76 thousand properties have been identified as having leaks.
Irish Water will contact customers by post if their water meter indicates a possible leak on their property.
Customers will then be asked to complete four simple checks around their home to help rule out internal plumbing issues as the cause of the potential leak.
If there are no internal plumbing issues customers can request a free leak investigation.
An Irish Water contractor will then call to schedule an investigation appointment.
