Galway Bay fm newsroom – Construction may begin on Apple’s 850 million euro data centre in Athenry by the end of the year.
The tech giant has been given the green light for the development this morning by An Bord Pleanala.
Up to 300 people will employed during the construction phase.
The 24,500sqm facility will cater for the company’s Apple Music, App Store, Messages, Maps and Siri customers in Europe.
The development will involve a single-storey data centre, logistic and administration building and security unit at Palmerstown, Tobberroe and Derrydonnell.
The higher planning authority has granted permission for the development with 20 conditions attached.
Among the conditions is a stipulation that details of the proposed amenity walkway must be submitted to the planning authority prior to commencement.
Also, a bond must be paid to secure the reinstatement of public roads that may be damaged by construction transport.
