Galway Bay fm newsroom – The deadline for tenders for the Aran Islands’ air service public service obligation contract has been further extended by two weeks.
However the impasse over the cost of the contract continues between the owners of Na Minna airport in Inverin and department officials.
Gaeltacht Minister and Galway West TD Sean Kyne says the deadline for tenders for the PSO contract has been extended to August 19th.
The existing arrangement with Aer Arann expires at the end of September, and legal advice states that the contract cannot be extended further.
Deputy Kyne says the new tender will begin at the start of December which leaves a gap in service provision to be addressed.
He says some progress has been made in resolving some issues but substantive negotiations are ongoing.
