Average 900 journeys a day on Galway to Dublin trains

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The fastest rail journey between Dublin and Galway in 2014 was 2 hours 18 mins, according to the National Transport Authority’s latest Rail Census.

It details boarding and alightings of passengers at every train station in the country on a sample day last year.

The census shows that on the sample day, there were 891 boardings for Heuston, Dublin at Galway’s Ceannt Station.

There were a further 116 boardings at Athenry and 41 boardings at Ballinasloe on the same route.

4 people boarded Heuston-bound trains at Woodlawn.

There were 191 boardings at Galway station on the Limerick-bound route.

The census shows there were 19 boardings at Oranmore and a further 20 in Gort on the sample day, compared to 23 and 13 respectively the previous year.

The total number of boardings at Galway station on November 13th 2014 was one thousand 218, compared to one thousand and 53 in the previous census.

On the same day, 778 people alighted at Ceannt station in Galway, while a further 148 alighted in Ballinasloe and 297 alighted in Athenry.
