Galway Bay fm newsroom – The demand for bus services in Galway City has experienced a major surge with an increase of over one million passenger journeys in just three years.
The figure was supplied by the National Transport Authority to Galway West Deputy Sean Kyne after he raised the issue of Galway bus services in the Dail.
They reveal that Bus Eireann services in Galway city experienced a sharp rise of 31 percent in passengers journeys between 2012 and 2014.
City Direct bus services operating throughout the city also experienced significant growth during the same period, recording an increase of 16 percent.
Deputy Kyne says the increase is welcome news, and has been aided by reorganisation of bus services, timetable revisions and new features including LEAP cards and real time information displays.
However, Deputy Kyne says while the improvements are showing their value, several outstanding issues need to be addressed.
