Galway Bay fm newsroom – Major upgrade works at the water treatment plant in Leenane have been completed – one month ahead of schedule.
A boil water notice was imposed on the area last summer (07/15) due to cryptosporidium fears, and remains in place.
Irish Water has invested 900 thousand euro in upgrading the facility, which will improve water quality for over 200 people in the area.
A process-proving period is now underway, during which stringent testing will be carried out.
This is a requirement of the Environmental Protection Agency and the HSE, which decides when a boil water notice can be lifted.
The Leenane boil notice remains in place and all water must be boiled before use for washing food, drinking, ice or brushing teeth.
