Households affected by boil water notices decreases despite Galway problems

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Despite boil notices remaining in place in two areas in Galway, the number of households on notices around the country is down to 6,000.

Irish Water says it’s reduced the number  – from a peak of 23,000 customers who couldn’t drink their supply straight from the tap –  at the end of last year.

A boil water notice in Williamstown is affecting more than a thousand households, while 200 households in Leenane are affected by a boil notice there.

The controversial state utility’s announcement comes as over 200,000 homes in Dublin are told their water now has a lowered risk of cryptosporidium.

Irish Water’s Mark MaCauley says the supply from the Stillorgan Reservoir in South Co. Dublin is now up to 21st century standards.
