Galway Bay fm newsroom – Over three quarters of a million euro has been allocated towards taking estates across Galway into charge.
The €762,000 allocation is part of a €9m national fund to help local authorities with the taking-in-charge of housing developments.
The ‘taking in charge’ scheme will assist the local authority to assume responsibility for the roads, footpaths and public areas associated with a particular estate.
The lions share of Galway’s allocation under will go towards estates in the county.
Just over €700,000 will go towards such estates – these include estates in Moycullen, Oughterard, Barna, Claregalway, Tuam, Athenry, Ballinasloe and Loughrea.
Meanwhile, €60,000 will go towards bringing two city estates under the remit of the local authority – these are Ard na Coille at Maunsells Road, and Mount Pleasant Drive in Shantalla.
Gaeltacht Minister and Galway West/South Mayo Fine Gael TD Sean Kyne says the funding will be a relief to thousands of households across Galway.
