Health and safety watchdog investigated over 250 Galway workplace injuries last year

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Health and Safety Authority investigated over 251 non-fatal workplace injuries across Galway last year.

The watchdog’s annual report shows that a total of 266 accidents were investigated in 2015, the vast majority of which involved workers.

The HSA also investigated 8 fatal incidents across counties Galway, Mayo and Roscommon last year.

The report outlines a series of actions taken against workplaces where an employee sustained an injury.

The document reveals that Iggy Madden Transport Limited was fined 20 thousand euro in court after being convicted of failing to ensure that work at height carried out in March 2013 was properly planned and supervised.

Earrai Coillte Chonnacht Teoranta was fined 2000 euro by the courts after an employee was seriously injured in Janurary 2014, after becoming pinned between a metal bin and a drop sorter machine.

Both companies pleaded guilty to the allegations and were fined under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act of 2005.
