Galway Bay fm newsroom – OPW Minister Sean Canney is refuting calls for him to intervene in the Dunkellin River flood relief project – and says his involvement could jeopardise the works.
It follows the revelation that the long-sought works have been delayed and will not be completed until almost 2020.
Works were due to start around now but are now postponed until mid September – and it’s expected that the project will take three years to complete.
The matter was raised at a meeting of Galway County Council this week where an update on flooding was provided by officials.
Councillors were informed of a number of conditions set out for the project by An Bord Pleanala – these include works which can only be carried out in certain seasons.
Minister Sean Canney says it’s crucial that the project is allowed to continue without interference.
