Galway Bay fm newsroom – The N59 has reopened at Lettershea this evening following a major landslide which closed the national route for four days
A series of landslides begun last Thursday evening around 5 miles east of Clifden town, and thousands of tonnes of landslide material covered the road.
The road has now re-opened, but the County Council is advising motorists to exercise caution in the area.
Meanwhile, traffic is returning to normal in Connemara following a two-vehicle blockage on a local roadway.
Gardai and council crews have now removed the 52 seater coach and a lorry which had been blocking the Bog Road off the N59.
The road was being used as a diversion as crews worked to clear landslide material from the main route, but both routes have now re-opened.
