Galway Bay fm newsroom – The High Court has extended time for a report from the examiner appointed to prepare a survival scheme for Debenhams eleven stores across Ireland, including one in the city.
Mr Justice Brian McGovern has agreed to extend time for examiner Kieran Wallace to finalise his report.
Court protection will also continue until the 20th of July.
According to the Irish Times, Debenhams Retail Ireland Ltd directly employs 1,400 staff in Ireland while 500 concession staff and 300 cosmetics staff also work in the company’s stores.
The company sought court protection in May arising from consistent losses sustained since the recession in 2007 and after withdrawal of support of its UK parent company, Debenhams Retail plc.
It’s hoped a ‘survival scheme’ scheme can be put in place for the stores, which will involve reducing rent costs.
Debenhams Retail Ireland Ltd operates four stores in Dublin, two in Cork, and others in Galway, Limerick, Newbridge, Tralee and Waterford – all of which remain open.
