The Ballinasloe Municipal District has a new Cathaoirleach.
At the AGM this week Fianna Fáil Councillor Donal Burke was chosen for the position.
He was elected to Galway County Council as a first time candidate following the 2014 local elections.
The Kilaltenagh native succeeds Fine Gael Councillor Michael Finnerty who was Cathaoirleach for the past year.
The Leas-Cathaoirleach is Fine Gael Councillor Aidan Donohue.
Among the issues, Councillor Burke hopes to address during his term as Cathaoirleach of the district is the protection of Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe and tourism within the East Galway area.
Councillor Burke also says that he’s not just going to focus on Ballinasloe town.
