Galway Bay fm newsroom – New regulator powers should give legal certainty to rights of access along the Galway to Mayo gas pipeline.
This would allow the placing of fibre-optic cable to bring broadband infrastructure to the west.
According to the Irish Times, the Commission for Energy Regulation is to have its powers of enforcement enhanced.
This aims to protect consumer interests while increasing financial penalties against utilities which breach competition and market rules.
Minister for Energy and Roscommon/Galway TD Denis Naughten says the Energy Bill 2016 would place a new focus on improper conduct and will facilitate the carrying out of investigations.
The new powers would also give legal certainty to rights of access along the Galway-Mayo gas pipeline.
This would assist in bringing broadband infrastructure to the west.
