Galway Bay Fm newsroom-Thousands of people lined the streets of Galway this evening (Sunday) to welcome home Connacht’s Rugby heroes who won the Pro 12 in Murrayfield, Scotland yesterday (Saturday)
From the starting point of the parade at Galway’s Town Hall the winning team set out on their trip on honour in an open top bus as crowds followed them through Eyre Square and to the Sportsground.
Over five thousand people welcomed the Champions as they arrived at The Sportsground.
As they reached the stage at the Sportsground they were welcomed first by the Mayor of Galway Cllr Frank Fahy followed by coach Pat Lam who both spoke in Irish and English.
Pat Lam said it was a victory for people in all Connacht counties and he thanked all who had supported the team.
The biggest cheer of all was reserved for Connacht Rugby captain, John Muldoon from Portumna.
He said it was humbling to be on the stage and he spoke of all the others who had played for an supported Connacht teams in the times when they were not winning.
John Muldoon added that with the amount of young people who would now wear the Connacht colours there is a bright future for the province in rugby.
He concluded by saying that they will see all the supporters in September when they “have a title to defend”.
