Galway Bay fm newsroom – A seal pup rescued at Salthill in an extremely emaciated state last December is set to be released back into the wild tomorrow.
The pup, who was just several weeks old when she was discovered at Grattan Road, was nursed in Galway before being transfered to Seal Sanctuary Ireland.
There, the plucky pup’s wounds were treated and she was taught valuable skills essential to her survival, including learning to fish on her own.
Staff at the sanctuary christened her ‘Poison Ivy’ after the DC comic book character.
Ivy will be released back into the sea along with two other pups tomorrow afternoon at 12 at Ladies Beach in Salthill.
Meadow Greenwood, manager of Seal Sanctuary Ireland, says Ivy had a long and challenging road to recovery.
Meadow says Ivy is well prepared for her big day tomorrow – and they’re hoping everyone will turn up to see her off.
