Man convicted of killing young Connemara man in Australia has sentence cut

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The man convicted of killing a young Connemara man in Australia in 2013 has had his sentence cut by an Australian court of appeal.

23 year old Thomas Keaney from Ballyconneely died in Perth in December 2013, ten days after he was hit once on the back of the head by Abbas Al Jrood.

The young man, who had been in Australia for 13 months, fell and hit his head on the pavement during the incident.

Al Jrood had pleaded not guilty but was subsequently convicted by a jury.

According to the Irish Independent, Al Jrood’s sentence has been reduced from nine years to seven years.

He also remains eligible for parole.
