Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Kylemore Trust in Connemara, which runs the iconic Kylemore Abbey, is hoping to build a new monastery.
The Trust has applied to the county council for planning permission to build a new 3 storey-monastery at Pollacappul.
The development of a new monastery will include the demolition of the back of the existing chapel building.
It would also mean re-configuring a footpath on the existing bridge and other works at Kylemore Abbey, which is a protected structure.
The application includes a Flood Rosk Assessment, a Tree Survey and a Natura Impact Statement.
Kylemore Abbey is home to the Benedictine community of nuns.
The application states that a new purpose-built monastery is needed to accommodate all the nuns within the Abbey grounds, where they can be connected and interact with visitors to the Abbey and its Estate.
