Galway Bay fm newsroom – The fate of Cleggan’s Postal Agency has been sealed with a very definite ‘no’ to any future services given at a meeting this afternoon.
Residents were told by representatives from An Post just a short time ago that there is no possability for the reinstatement of any postal service going forward.
They committed to bringing local concerns back to Dublin, but warned residents not to hold out hope for any change in the situation.
Previously, An Post has confirmed that postal agencys like that at Cleggan are no longer part of its national network and will be phased out.
The new operator of the shop previously offering the facility had expressed interest in continuing the service, but this was declined and the contract was terminated earlier this month.
Locals now have to travel approximately 4km to Claddaghduff post office to collect social welfare payments.
Councillor Eileen Mannion was at this afternoon’s meeting – she says there’s serious local concern about the impact the loss will have on the livelihood of Cleggan.
