Galway Bay fm newsroom – A man has been taken to hospital with burn injuries following an explosion and fire on a boat near Oranmore.
The incident happened shortly before 2 o’clock this afternoon, when two local men were sailing in the bay close to Renville.
The coastguard helicopter, Gardaí and other emergency services attended the scene.
Gardaí say a build-up of gas in the boat’s engine caused an accidental explosion, and a fire broke out on board the vessel.
The boat sank, and one of the two men on board was taken to hospital with non life-threatening burn injuries.
The other man was safely taken to shore.
