Galway Bay fm newsroom – A unique cartoon exhibition due to open at NUI Galway next week has allegedly been removed by the university.

NUI Galway Students’ Union says the ‘Secret Cartoonist’ exhibition was set up yesterday, but was removed overnight.

The drawings, many of which feature University President Jim Browne, address issues such as gender equality and management of the college.

In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, NUI Galway says its Arts Office has not been involved in the mounting of the exhibition, a claim which organisers dispute.

The university says it’s working to establish the ownership of the drawings, and in the meantime, is holding the material for safekeeping.

The pop-up exhibition is due to open at the Arts Millenium Building at NUI Galway on Monday afternoon.

Dr Michelene Sheehy Skeffington is involved in the equality campaign behind the exhibit.

She claims the Students’ Union had booked the space, and is still trying to determine who called for the removal of the drawings.
