Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Galway Cathedral and NUIG feature on a list of top most iconic Irish construction projects over the past 80 years.
The list is published in the latest issue of Construction Magazine to mark the 80th anniversary of the Construction Industry Federation.
Projects were chosen which were innovative, iconic, award winning, the first of their kind or infrastructurally critical.
Galway Sanitorium makes the list for the 1930s and 40s decades.
For the period 1950 to 1969, Galway Cathedral is listed as an iconic construction project along with Cork Opera House and UCD.
In the 1970s and 80s, NUI Galway makes the list while Boston Scientific ranks for the 90s decade.
Among the more recent iconic construction projects which are marked on the list are the Bord Gais Theatre in Dublin and Mel’s Cathedral in Longford.
