Five Monivea boxers took part in the Connacht Championships in Castlerea at the weekend.
Girl 2. 42kg Aaliyah Butler had a decisive win against Katie Moran (Ballinamore BC Leitrim) forcing the referee to stop the contest on a TKO in the first round after Moran received two standing counts. Boy 4. 46kg Ciaran White boxed Shea Pye (KFC BC Mayo) After a slow first round Ciaran gave it everything in the second and third round. This very close contest ended with Pye receiving the nod from all three judges. Youth 1. 39kg Adam Hession beat his opponent Patrick Hopkins (Ardnaree BC Mayo). Using teasing left jabs and solid right crosses Adam kept the pressure on Hopkins for all three rounds using the ring well and working Hopkins into the corners with body and head punches. After an exciting contest the judges gave Adam all three rounds. Well done to all our boxers and the best of luck to Adam and Warren in the National Championships in Dublin April 15th_17th and 22nd-23rd and Aaliyah and Nicole May 13th_15th and 20th-23rd
