Galway Bay Fm newsroom-Ballinasloe Gardaí, investigating the carjacking of a vehicle in Mountbellew with two occupants inside, have confirmed to Galway Bay Fm that they will be questioning a man who appeared in Cavan court last evening (Saturday)
The vehicle stolen in the Mountbellew carjacking on Thursday was used to commit further crimes in Monaghan – including theft and the impersonation of a Garda.
A man appeared before a special court sitting in Cavan last evening (Saturday).
Shortly before lunchtime on Thursday, a woman was knocked to the ground in Mountbellew and bundled into the Hyundai Santa Fe jeep she was travelling in with her brother.
The male culprit drove the SUV with its two occupants inside, to a wooded area in Ballygar where he released them and then made off with the vehicle.
The jeep was later used to commit theft near Scotch Corner in Co. Monaghan – when the man pretended to be a Garda and stopped and robbed an 86 year old motorist.

A second man, who was in the vehicle in Monaghan, will appear before a special sitting of Cavan District at 8pm this Sunday evening.
The first man arrested in connection with this incident has been released and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
He is to be questioned in connection with the carjacking in the coming days by Ballinasloe Gardai.
