Galway Bay fm newsroom – The HSE is working with Galway City Council to provide a new entrance to Merlin Park Hospital but has admitted there’s no timeline in place
The matter has been raised at this afternoon’s meeting of the HSE Regional Health Forum West by City Councillor Terry O’Flaherty.
Councillor O’Flaherty says the current entrance at Dublin Road has been the subject of discussion for almost 30 years due to safety concerns.
The City Council says the safest and most effective location for a new entrance would be at the Galway Crystal traffic lights.
The council will now seek funding to carry out an environmental assessment of the area to see if the suggested entrance is a feasible option.
The HSE says it’s working with the local authority on the development of possible routes into the Merlin Park Hospital roads network.
However, it says there’s currently no timeline in place for the delivery of a new entrance.
Councillor O’Flaherty says the matter should be progressed as a matter of urgency.
